Purpose Update an existing customer's personal information, contact details, status, and account information.

The Edit Customer page allows authorised users to update customer information without affecting historical billing or payments.


Before You Begin

Before editing a customer:

  • Ensure you have permission to edit customer records.
  • Verify the information with the customer.
  • Confirm any changes to contact details.

How to Edit a Customer

Step 1

Open the Customers page.

Step 2

Locate the customer using the search box or filters.

Select Actions → Edit.

Step 4

Update the required information.

The form contains the following fields.

Other NamesOptional additional names
EmailCustomer email address
Phone NumbersOne or more contact numbers
Date StartedDate service began
Date StoppedDate service ended (if applicable)
StatusCurrent customer status
Customer TypeDomestic, Commercial, Industrial, etc.
NotesAdditional comments

Step 5

If required, select Add Phone Number to add another contact number.

Existing numbers can also be removed.


Step 6

Select Update Customer to save your changes.

To exit without saving, select Cancel.


Expected Behaviour

After updating:

  • ✅ Customer information is saved.
  • ✅ The customer list reflects the updated information.
  • ✅ Billing points linked to the customer remain unchanged.
  • ✅ Historical invoices and payments remain unchanged.
  • ✅ The update is recorded in the Activity Log.

Business Rules

  • First Name, Surname, Email, Phone Number, Status, and Customer Type are required fields.
  • A customer may have multiple phone numbers.
  • Editing customer information does not modify billing history.
  • Deleting contact numbers does not remove historical records.
  • Only authorised users can update customer information.

Typical changes include:

  • Updating phone numbers
  • Changing an email address
  • Correcting a customer's name
  • Changing customer status
  • Updating customer type
  • Adding internal notes
